Ghostbusters Spirits Unleashed Coming Oct 18th

18 Aug

Ghostbusters Spirits Unleashed Key ArtThe Ghostbusters are back in business once again, but this time it’s as a videogame! Although there’s no signs of a virtual reality version, Ghostbusters Spirits Unleashed is a 4v1 hunt and haunt action-packed asymmetrical multiplayer now available for pre-order!  The trailer picks up from where the last movie, Afterlife, left off, with Hudson as the CEO, and it’s terrific we got a narrative to go along with the gameplay.

This product from IllFonic, Inc. will be available come Tuesday, October 18, 2022, on PC via Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4|5, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.

From the Press Release

Form a team with up to three other Ghostbusters to track down Ghosts haunting a number of locales. Sniff out paranormal activity with the P.K.E. Meter and charge it to unleash a short-range pulse disabling Ghost movement. Unveil hidden rifts acting as the Ghost’s spawn points and teleportation portals, and destroy them. Use the powerful Particle Throwers to capture the Ghost, deploy a trap, and wrangle them into it before they escape!

Afterthoughts on Ghostbusters: Afterlife

21 Nov

Heavy Spoiler Alert

Not everyone from the original films returned to appear in Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Two characters we didn’t get to see Louis Tully (Rick Moranis) and the other is the titular Slimer. The former is understandable as the actor retired a long time ago, to take care of his kids when his wife sadly passed. Though they’re older now, and Moranis has done a few voice-over roles, to convince him to appear on screen requires more than being friends with Ryan Reynolds or what Sony / Columbia Pictures can offer.

Regarding why he declined to appear in the 2016 film, “I hope it’s terrific. But it just makes no sense to me. Why would I do just one day of shooting on something I did 30 years ago?” he said to The Hollywood Reporter in 2015. His reasoning can apply to this 2020/21 film (delayed due to the pandemic).

Ghostbusters Afterlife & Ultimate Set in Review

Win GHOSTBUSTERS AFTERLIFE on Blu-ray - STARBURST Magazine

Bluray Available to Purchase on Amazon USA (all countries)
4K Ultimate Collection (limited to USA)

The difference between buying the individual releases of the Ghostbusters film on Blu-ray and the massive 4K box set is not just the cardboard. It’s a fairly big box that can be put on a display shelf, and as for the individually cardboard sleeved discs, perhaps moving them onto proper cases is better. Those can be placed on the video library shelf.

The collectable edition has a cool green-coloured light-up effect when you open the faux ghost trap to reveal the packages. The study cardboard construction can take some bruising, but I’ll be trying to keep mine as prestine (still with the plastic sleeve) as possible and dusting it more often than usual. The two bonus discs is the reason why long time fans are buying this edition over the single. I’m still going through them all (as time allows) and find reading the recreation of Don Shay’s Making Ghostbusters book from 1985 the big bonus.

PC, PlayStation, Xbox

Anyone who has seen Ghostbusters: Afterlife will know how the business will carry on. Winston Zeddemore is ready to revitalize the business, and we hear his voice in the announce trailer for Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed.

There’s also the return of another fond character. This game sets up what’s next for the team, but if Phoebe is around, this video is not saying. Instead, it’s getting gamers hyped up to test their abilities–or rather be in their shoes–in what’s coming up next. They better not be slimed. IllFonic is the studio behind this first person shooter, and they’re aiming for an end of year release to continue the tale!

It’s A Bold New Ghostbusters Afterlife

Lightning cracks from dark green clouds. People get out of a battered 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor Sentinel below and look on.

Spoiler Alert

The first Ghostbusters film is a beloved introduction to a ragtag group of scientists kicked out of university for their questionable belief in ghosts. They gathered enough spectral data to realize its possible to contain these spirits, and turn their idea into a business since they are considered ‘pests.’ Their first client, the lovely Dana Barrett hired this team to figure out why her apartment is spook central, and the god they prevented from appearing closed off the movie. Paranormal activity still took place throughout New York State, but it wouldn’t really pick up again until five years have passed.

It wasn’t until Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler, Peter Venkman and Winston Zeddemore had to deal with the spirit of a mad despot trapped in a painting when things truly quieted down. Spengler wasn’t ready to rest and even after this case, he knew there was a grande scheme happening while his teammates believed it was over. Flash forward to Ghostbusters: Afterlife, not everyone remembers the events from decades ago and we see him out on his own, dealing with a huge supernatural threat.
