Is it even possible to identify which of the nine trailers released during Superbowl Sunday are the best? To slightly borrow from J.R.R. Tolkien, there would be one to rule them all, and everything else would fall under the category of second, third and fourth best. Yes, it means I’ll be tuning into Amazon Prime’s attempt to unseat Game of Thrones with Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. The teaser is enough to get me excited. I presume WETA will aid in the special effects production since much of this series is filmed in New Zealand.
Because of the limited number of genre pieces released, I offer my top three films that truly whetted my appetite.
The Adam Project
Ryan Reynolds has been appearing in nearly hit after hit, and I’m sure his latest will earn him praise. The Adam Project is promising because it’s a time-travel adventure where he tries to fix the timeline after his girlfriend disappears. What I felt from the trailer is a work inspired by Disney’s Flight of the Navigator.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
With no surprise, this latest film reveals that Doctor Strange’s changing of the timeline–or rather wiping everyone’s memory of Spider-Man–has consequences. The multiverse is falling apart, and the evils are not only from the nightmares of what the MCU previously constructed but also it’s being imagined in a style that Evil Dead maestro Sam Raimi can! We already know about Evil Doctor Strange, but what other insanity can happen?
Jurassic World: Dominion
The world has changed since the dinosaurs have been freed from its island habitat. They were cut loose in the last film, and the fact they’ve roamed further beyond South America suggests other forces were at work to cause this population change. My guess is Dr. Wu is behind it all, but we’ll never know until he reveals himself as either the mad genius that he is, or his employers betray him!
