New Frozen 2 Trailer Goes North!

The new teaser trailer for Frozen 2 is exciting for the majesty invoked, and in what it’s telling, Elsa (Idina Menzel) magical powers may have come from other supernatural sources. Or, as the Northern setting suggests, could she be of the faerie folk? I’m only guessing here, but this new offering released today gives fans a lot of reasons to be excited about this film when it plays in theatres in November.

She’s backed by her sister, Anna (Kristen Bell), Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), Olaf the snowman (Josh Gad) and Sven the reindeer in a quest to save the kingdom. This time, it’s not from human invaders, but rather supernatural ones. Together, they have to go north perhaps to discover her true nature and find out what granted her these powers. Or was she born with it?

To symbolically break down the scenes, to see Elsa run towards and fall into the water implies she is looking to return to her birthplace. The dialogue with the troll implies she is not of this world at all. When these creatures are of Scandinavian (Norse) origins, I’m seeing more of this folklore seeping into this world. The water horse Elsa encounters in the ocean is a Nokk, a water spirit. They are shapeshifters, and the mare symbolizes freedom. This queen must be seeking some form of release so she can be what she truly is.

Perhaps there’ll be an encounter with a divinity or two. Skadi is a frost giantess and the Bifröst, as the name implies may suggest they are venturing into the realm of gods. Instead of a physical bridge, the trailer sees the team finding standing stones. Whatever is calling to Elsa, the answer is going to affect the lives of everyone. Instead of a tale heavy with musical elements, more action-adventure is going to take place!

For fans who cannot wait for this film, Dark Horse Comics has interim works to keep fans interested until the film’s release. The Hero Within, Breaking Boundaries (now available in trade paperbackFrozen 2) and Reunion RoadFrozen 2 are all available online or at a comic book store to read.
