The next batch of Dragons: Race to the Edge episodes is long overdue. Netflix is either waiting for the 2015 year to be over or there’s been a delay to get the product done. No official word is made and for followers of the How to Train Your Dragon series, all anyone knows are the episode titles for the next 13 episodes (see below).
When considering other DreamWorks properties have had their batch releases every 5-6 months (All Hail King Julien and The Adventures of Puss in Boots), to not hear of a date for Dragons is unusual. Race to the Edge released June 26, 2015 and based on dates of these other series later package releases, new episodes should have been at least out by November.
Who knows, maybe dragons need to hibernate. Episodes must spring up by April 2016 otherwise fandom will train Monstrous Nightmares to belch flames at this online streaming video provider for not being considerate to the masses who enjoy this series. Recent news reported on License! Global‘s latest newsletter reveals DreamWorks Animation has entered a five-year agreement with DHX Media to co-produce original animated children’s content. The shows that will now be handled are All Hail King Julien, The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show, Dragons: Race to the Edge and Dawn of the Croods. Bardel Entertainment previously handled the animation chores for King Julien.
Although the book series has finished (the last volume released Sept-Nov [depending on the territory]), Titan Comic‘s release of the series is erratic and Dark Horse Comic‘s release of The Serpent’s Heir (penned by movie creator, Dean DeBlois) is due April 26, 2016, there’s going to be some confusion over what to follow since DreamWorks may not be managing all the expanded universe material. At least DeBlois’ works are canon.
As for what Titan is up to, they are micromanaging the hard to find early volumes. The last release in October re-released the first two volumes, “Dragon Down” and “Dangers of the Deep.” The new year will offer a graphic novel compilation of the remainder of the material and beginning Feb 24 will be stories from season two, Defenders of Berk. While these releases will sate fans hungry for any material, the big question fans are asking is if some production team is limping at getting Race to the Edge done?
