Some times some crimes go slippin’ through the cracks, and this time Chip n’ Dale’s Rescue Rangers will come to life as a feature-length live-action movie. The rodents will no doubt be rendered in CGI and this concept should prove interesting. The Hollywood Reporter is letting Disney Afternoon fans know that these chipmunks with a penchant for danger are going after more than just cheese. Well, that’s if Monty, a pudgy adventure-loving mouse, has anything to say about it.
The concept can work. If Alvin and the Chipmunks and The Smurfs can have live-action movies, then the Rescue Rangers are a safe bet for more comedy hijinks. The gambit of cartoon to live-action films are not just limited to them. Yogi Bear is best left to hibernate and The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle is best left forgotten.
Award winning director of television commercials and of the short, Wiley vs Rhodes, Robert Rugan successfully pitched the idea to the mouse, and the studio is giving the idea a thumbs up. With a cartoon show about solving crimes that no regular detective will pick up, these two little rodents will take care of business in any situation that warrants it. Over at Otaku no Culture, we are hoping that Professor Nimnul or Fat Cat will be the antagonist.
According to initial reports, this film will be an origin story. It most likely will see how Chip and Dale partnered up, and the side characters of Gadget Hackwrench, Monty and Zipper will hop aboard in no time. No information has been stated as to when production will begin but at least the idea is on the table and being developed.
A movie might arrive sometime between 2016 to 2018, and that will be a long wait. In the meantime, fans can go watch the original toons featuring Disney’s favourite rodents and Rescue Rangers all again. The song that opens the cartoon is hard to get out of the head. Presented here is the extended version to bring waves of nostalgia back, and this jazzy remix is not too bad either.
