[B.C.] A Great Week and a Smashing Geek-End

Just because autumn is upon us doesn’t mean that fandom activities will cease. There is plenty to see and do at this time of the year. And I am hoping a simple week’s events listing will help many of you who live either in Vancouver or on Vancouver Island to seek out your own fun. So come on, get out from in front of that computer screen and perhaps make a new friend or two!

October 2 – UVic Anime Club General Meet – Victoria, B.C.

Every Wednesday at 6pm the University of Victoria Anime Club has their general meet at ECS 124, the Engineering and Computer Science Building. Join your fellow anime geeks, make a new friend and watch some Japanese animated programming.

October 3 – Camosun Anime Club – Victoria, B.C.

The anime club at Camosun College will be meeting in the Ewing Building from 1:30 pm to 2:30 in room #346.

October 3 – Cosplay Brigade AGM – Victoria, B.C.

Cosplay Brigade is a newer group with plans to create workshops, create fun events and spread the joy of costuming to others. They will be meeting in room D132 in the Clearihue Building on the University of Victoria campus. The meeting is public and interested cosplayers (or people who have always wanted to cosplay) are welcome to attend.

October 4-6 – Vcon 38 – Richmond, B.C.

Vcon is Vancouver’s premiere science fiction and fantasy convention. This year’s convention will be held at the Delta Vancouver Airport Hotel. Guests include authors Mur Lafferty, Dan Wells, John Kovalic and artist/costumer Thyrza Segal.

October 5 – No Hunger Games – Saanich, B.C.

As a role player and board gamer, you can do your part to help the hungry and homeless. No Hunger Games is a charitable event to sponsor the Our Place Society homeless kitchen and shelter. There will gaming for all levels including a how-to for beginners for today’s popular games (Pokemon). The event will be held from 10:30 am to 11:30 pm at the gymnasium inside the Commonwealth Recreation Centre.

October 5 – Medieval Chaos: A Soul Retrieval – Duncan, B.C.

Medieval Chaos Productions is Vancouver Island’s premier Heavy Action Role Playing group (H.A.R.P.) with over 100 members. They will be meeting this Saturday at Dagger Deep, a large plot of land used by the club.

October 5 – UVic Games Club – Saanich, B.C.

The Uvic Games Club plays board games, card games and everything between. They meet Saturdays in the Clearihue Building, C112 on the University of Victoria Campus.

October 6 – Shadefall LARP Practice Meet – Nanaimo, B.C.

Shadefall is Nanaimo’s live action role playing group. And they meet for practice every Sunday from 1:30 pm to about 7:30 in Bowen Park’s picnic area.

October 6 – Victoria’s Ultimate Hobby and Toy Fair – Victoria, B.C.

Enjoy Victoria’s largest hobby and toy fair this Sunday at the Pearkes arena. Early bird doors open at 8 am and the show continues until 3pm. Guests appearing at the show will be Glen Mullaly, Ken Steacy, comic artist of such works as NOW’s Astro Boy and Comico’s Johnny Quest and Gareth Gaudin, creator of Perogy Cat.
